Number of Factory DRY SUMP installed by the 'Riparto Assistanzia Clienti'

Subject  4878 ( 626)   and   4956  (667)

Only the two Miura SV 4878 and 4956 were fitted in period by the Factory with the dry sump device. However, recently, only one is mentioned (4878).

A thorough investigation confirms that there were indeed
two cars so equiped.

Below are the results of this investigation, documents, recordings, interviews, attestations or others in order to restore the truth about
4956.

Read well to the end.

.............................................................................................

1) A (materialized) declaration by Orazio Salvioli: (former manager of Riparto Assistanza Clienti) Mr Salvioli attests that only two Miura SVs, bearing chassis numbers 4878 and 4956, were at the time of the Miura equipped by the factory of a dry sump lubrication system. Work carried out for the two cars in its Riparto Assistenza Clienti, after delivery of the new cars, originally equipped with wet sump.

2) A statement (materialized) by Valentino Balboni: Mr Valentino Balboni certifies that the Miura SV 4956 has been fitted with a factory dry sump. Work carried out in his presence by Riparto Assistanza Clienti of Lamborghini, in the same way as what was done on 4878. He adds that only these two cars have benefited from this factory dry sump modification. In addition, he specifies that these two SVs were originally released in a wet sump: the 4878 with a common oil sump as on the majority of Miura, the 4956 with a separate sump like the latest SV models.

..................................................................................................................

3) A handwritten certificate from Mr. Edmond Ciclet : former workshop manager of Etablissement Thépenier, French Lamborghini importer at the time. He writes that as part of his duties, he regularly went to the Lamborghini Factory in Sant Agata at the time, and that he was in fact in close contact with the Riparto Assitanza Clienti teams who explained to him in such a way. precise and detailed that only 4878 and 4956 had been fitted with a dry sump by the factory. Work carried out for each of the two cars in their Reparto Assistenza Clienti workshop located in the premises of the Sant Agata factory. Mr Ciclet also specifies that having had both 4878 and 4956 for maintenance in France, he was able to personally observe and physically observe that these two cars had strictly the same factory dry sump device technically speaking (pump system, radiator oil, ...). He writes for information that on the occasion of the adoption of their dry sump, these two cars were also equipped with a ZF self-locking differential system which they did not originally have.

.................................................................................................................

4) A letter from Bob Wallace :Lamborghini test driver and developer. He writes that - without counting his Jota prototype - and based on his feedback with the dry-sump lubrication system he had developed on this project, only two production Miura SVs had subsequently been officially equipped by Lamborghini. a dry sump. He explains that the work was carried out at the Sant Agata plant, in post-equipment, and under his technical supervision.

...................................................................................................................

5) A Factory certificate from Giuseppe Girotti: Technical Director at the time. In 1989, when Mr Lansberg’s car passed through the Reparto Assistanza clienti, a Factory certificate was issued by Mr Giuseppe Girotti, Technical Director in the presence of Mr Ubaldo Sgarzi. This certificate certifies that the dry sump device of the 4956 vehicle was indeed the official factory equipment that Lamborghini had fitted at the time on two Miura SVs: this 4956, and another Miura SV, the 4878. Orazio Salvioli who was present alongside Mr Ubaldo Sgarzi and Mr Girotti and during this visit, certified that it was indeed in his customer repair department of the factory and under his supervision that the work had been carried out at the time. installation of the dry sump and the lock on 4956. He even added that a central wiper had been mounted on 4956 in parallel with the installation of its dry sump and self-locking differential

...................................................................................................................................

6) The 08/2002 Bonhams sales catalog : written by (Robert Brooks, Simon Kidston & Antony Maclean). Bonhams auction (Nurburgring-Germany) Lot N ° 134 - Miura SV 4878 of 08.10.2002 It is specified that only two Miura SVs were equipped with a dry sump by the Factory - the one offered for sale, plus a second.

.............................................................................................................................................

7) Claudio Zampolli's assertion to Joe Sackey: Claudio Zampolli, who worked at the Lamborghini Factory as a technician and test driver from 1966 to 1973, recalls (summary of an interview conducted by Joe Sackey): '... only the two Miura SV, 4878 and 4956, were equipped at the time of dry sump by the factory. These two cars, both wet crankcases when they were born, returned to the factory at the behest of their owners for the same reasons ... oil lift-off. Zampolli explains: '... the installation of the dry sump on 4956 was carried out before the car was subsequently destroyed in an accident. The dry sump system was salvaged from the crashed car, then reinstalled in Mr Lansberg's new car

....................................................................................................................................................

8) interview of Mr Jacques Dembiermont : (audio recording of 25 min- 1988 - owner of one of the two Miura SV dry sump, chassis 4878 he bought new in 1971):

He explains in detail and firmly that he personally saw the 4956 at the factory when it was installing its dry sump, work carried out at identical to what had been done on his 4878. He knew Mr. Lansberg well and they discussed it at length. Mr Dembiermont is affirmative in the recording: '' ... at the time of the production of the Miura, there were only two dry sump installed on SVs by the factory: on mine chassis 4878, in gold color, and on another SV, chassis 4956, in metallic brown color ... '' He was in very regular contact with the customer repair service. In addition, he confirms that these 2 cars were originally delivered new in a wet sump, and that the dry sump were installed some time later, quickly, but after their initial new delivery.
